Deer Creek is in western El Dorado County and eastern Sacramento County. The creek, which flows southwest, was first placer-mined during the gold rush. In the 1930s and early 1940s, substantial amounts of gold were recovered here by dragline dredges. One operation was reported to have recovered about 4500 ounces of gold from 790,000 cubic yards of gravel.
