Alluvial placer worked since ancient times in the area between St. Vith, Malmedy and Waimes.
Significant areas are the alluvials of Rechterbach stream.
Minerals listed below occur in the “black sand” concentrate.
The Rechterbach, in French "ru de Recht" or "ruisseau de Recht", is a stream in Belgium, a tributary on the left bank of the Amblève, therefore forming part of the watershed of the Meuse. It flows in the province of Liège.
The stream has its source at an altitude of 520 m in the Wolkeshart woods located west of the small village of Rodt, part of the municipality of Saint-Vith. Then, it quickly turns north, passes west of Recht (ponds) then enters a very deep wooded valley (height of 150 m) to its confluence with the Amblève at Pont at an altitude of 330 m.
At its confluence with the Amblève, the pure waters of the Ru de Recht supply an important fish farm in the region (trout farming).
