Lake Miranda is a playa lake system with gypisferous dunes, lunettes and sandy, clayey, and evaporitic lake floor deposits.

Located north of Leinster and just south of the abandoned settlement of Sir Samuel and the nearby Bellevue gold mine. The Goldfields Highway transects the lake. Significant water is only generally present after heavy summer rains. When full, the area of the lake is approximately 10,000 hectares.

An island in the centre of the lake system is a Simpson locality and contains outcrops of metamorphosed basalts with large, altered plagioclase porphyroblasts. This is listed in Volume 2 under clinozoisite (pg. 47). The plagioclase has been altered to saussurite mixtures of minerals which Simpson determined to consist of zoisite, albite, muscovite and quartz. This island is now an aboriginal heritage site.
