Boolcunda Manganese Mine (Prouts; Sa Manganese; South Australian Manganese Mine), Quorn


A manganese mine, located approx 30 km ENE of Quorn.

4 parallel lodes, one averaged 9 ft wide, the others from 2-5 ft. Lodes were composed of pyrolusite, manganite, and psilomelane, and yield was 3-4000 tons per annum for 3-4 years. Some small amount of working took place from 1938-1940.

Note: Not to be confused with the nearby Boolcunda Copper Mine (Wheal Friendship).
