The Helena was a failed copper mine near the head of Deer Creek. There was a rich surface showing here of all sorts of sulfides, mainly chalcopyrite. At one time a railroad spur was planned just for the mine, but this never was built. The mines shipped 150 tons of ore to the Tacoma Smelter before being abandoned after the closest rail line washed out for good. The main adit had around 250' of workings.
Note: While this is not technically on Deer Creek, the access is through Deer Creek.

Deposit: At least 2 sulfide-bearing quartz veins form large, low-grade ore bodies. This may be high level fracture zone over a possible porphyry copper
