A body of reddish spar, carrying considerable free quartz and some mica, occurs alongside the track of the Canadian National railway, 1-1/2 miles west of Aylen Lake siding. It was first worked in 1921 by Mr. Bambrick, of Ottawa, and during 1922-23 by the Canadian Non-Metallic Minerals Company, of Montreal. It has since lain idle. About 500 tons of spar are reported to have been shipped. Work was confined to an open-cut carried from the track for a distance of 60 feet and 25 feet wide by 25 feet deep. (Spence 1932)

The pegmatite, hosted by pink biotite-hornblende gneiss, consists of pink microcline with some white feldspar. There is considerable quartz which may have formed a core that is not exposed. Exposure, other than in the cut, is poor.
