This mine was originally opened during World War II to produce quartz for use in radio and radar equipment. In 1963 the mine was operated by Mr. J.B. Steele for quartz for the mineral specimen market. At that time, quartz crystals could be purchased on-site from Mr. Steele for $1.00 per pound, regardless of quality or size.
