Sougounikoura is a market location where people congregate once or twice a week to sell stuff and trade among themselves. Sougounikoura means new Sougouni in Bambara. It is south of the hill where the Baga diggings are. All of the localities where the prehnite, epidote etc. specimens come from are scattered all around. The skarns that produce them are often exposed on many of the low hills of the region and there are hundreds of small artisanal diggings ranging from areas where more than 100 holes have been dug to little single holes in the ground that may have produced only a few specimens or possibly nothing at all. It's a bit like the zeolite localities in India where specimens can be produced from a bank near a road where someone needed a cart or truck load of dirt or rocks for construction, a road cut, a well or a more or less organized quarry. Anywhere rocks are dug can be a locality, many of which don't have any official name. So since the market at Sougounikoura is a handy place to trade and sell stuff, specimens from the surrounding country are brought there for sale and this name can serve as a locality name for many small diggings in the area that have no particular name. These tiny local diggings may have names known only to members of a family or group of families and are not known to the outside world or even known to people living only a few miles away and that appear on no maps of the area.

Note: a part of the Medina Market in the city of Bamako is called "Sougouni-Coura" (alternate spelling: "Suguni-Coura") and is located at coordinates 12.661295985551044, -7.986706495285035. Perhaps this is the market location Rock Currier referred to in his remark? (Vik Vanrusselt, November 2025).
