A limestone deposit/quarry located in the SW¼ sec. 7 and in the W½ sec. 18, T3S, R19E, MDM, 5.0 km (3.1 miles) WNW of Clearing House, along Miller Gulch, on National Forest land. Operated by Johnny Richardson. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. The property consists of several claims covering most of the limestone-bearing land. The deposit was put into production in 1927 and operated until 1944.
A limestone deposit with dark gray to black and rather thinly-bedded limestone. The Mg oxide content averages considerably less than 3%. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Production information: Between 1927 and 1944, approximately 2,430,843 tons of limestone were quarried. Production ceased in 1944 when service on the Yosemite Valley RR was discontinued. Only a small precentage of the reserves were depleted but the deposit is on rugged terrain and is nearly 60 miles to the nearest rail shipping point.
