Not a granite quarry but an excavation in diabase. Notable for a xenolith of Lockatong argillite in the Palisades Diabase sill (trondhjemite). It was discovered in 1975 by Dr. Alan Benimoff, a professor of Geology at the College of Staten Island.
The quarry produced stone for Belgian blocks from 1840 to 1896. Recently preserved as open space.
