Minerals are found in the badlands ("calanchi") to the south and south-west of Monteveglio:
- calcite and baryte crystals in septarian concretions (Neviani, 1883; De Michele, 1974; Dalrio, 1978; Emiliani, 1994);
- baryte nodules with radiating fibrous structure up to 20 kg in weight (Bombicci, 1873; Jervis, 1874; Baldi, 2013);
- marcasite and pyrite concretions; harrowhead twin gypsum crystals (Bombicci, 1873-74; Jervis, 1874).
Note: On 1 January 2014 the former municipality of Monteveglio (together with those of Bazzano, Castello di Serravalle, Crespellano, and Savigno) became part of the new municipality of Valsamoggia.
