Septarian concretions.

The collecting area covers the head of the valley drained by Ghiaia di Borgoratto stream, the westernmost of the two branches which form the Coppa stream (although the easternmost branch is named Ghiaia di Montalto, both branches are locally called Ghiaia Coppa or Coppa). This area partly includes the occurrences known as Costa dei Cavalieri and Costa Galeazzi. Septarian concretions are found also further downstream in the municipal territory of Borgoratto Mormorolo.

Septarian concretions can be found in cultivated fields of corn, wheat and alfalfa; they are unearthed by the farmers when plowing the fields. They have round and oval sizes varying from 20-30 cm to 50-60 cm. The septariae may contain aragonite, calcite, gypsum, and baryte.
