Granite quarry run by John S. Ballard & Co. In 1889, the company advertised themselves as, among other things, "Proprietors of Ballard’s Stone Quarries, Ballard street, Quinsigamond". (Ballard Street is now Millbury Street)

An 1896 map shows the quarry on Ballard's farmland just southeast of the modern Holy Name Central Catholic High School, accessible from the Sagatabscot Ridge Trail.

A 1938 aerial photo shows another, perhaps more modern pit located in the area of Gibbs and Granite streets, now a composting yard, adjacent to multiple automobile scrap and recycling yards.
