Potash supplies from France and Germany stopped during WWI, at which point other sources where sort. Alunite was discovered in 1913 at Carrickalinga Heads and mining commenced in 1914. Adits, shafts and open cut mining were used to extract the Alunite, which was sent for processing from the Normanville Jetty. Mining ceased in 1915 due to the outbreak of WWI, but resumed in 1916 until the mine closed in 1919 due to increased costs.
Approx 350 tons shipped by closure of mine in 1919.
