Worked from the 15th to the 19th century, the "Saint-Guillaume vein" (Sankt Wilhelm in German) was worked by the most famous mines of the Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines district:
Sankt Wilhelm mine (first level at bottom valley), Saint Pierre inférieur mine (Sankt Peter low-level mine), Saint Pierre supérieur mine (Sankt Peter high-level mine), and Glückauf (worked by the remote fault of the Glückauf mine only and traced from the Sankt Ludwig vein to the Saint Guillaume vein (Sankt Wilhelm vein) in the 18th century).
This part of the Glückauf mine dates from the 18th century and was only accessible by the Saint Pierre supérieur mine and junction with the Narine mine (another Glückauf part from the 16th century) is closed.

As this locality lies in the Sainte Marie-aux-Mines district, the place is protected by an archaeological mining district status, and all collecting is prohibited.
