Andrarum is the center of a large area in E Scania (Skåne) with alum-schists which contain interesting but low levels of for instance U, V, S, Ni, Mo.
Historically it has been mined since the 16th century for lime and since 1637 producing alum until 1906 and red paint until 1929 when the industrial era took an end. During 18th century it was one of the biggest operations in Sweden.
Among the pits mined can the following be mentioned: Djupet, Magasinet, Stora Brottet, Södra brotte, Caroli Shaft and Maria Eleonora Shaft.
