Located within Gates of the Arctic National Park.
Location: This site is at an elevation of about 4400 feet, 3.75 miles west of Nahtuk Mountain. It is in the N1/2 of sec. 5, T. 25 N., R. 25 E., of the Kateel River Meridian. Accuracy of location is within 100 ft. The site corresponds to locality 37 of Grybeck and Nelson (1981).
Geology: This occurrence consists of small amounts of sphalerite in quartz veinlets and as disseminated grains in a prominent orange-weathering knob about 30 feet in diameter (Grybeck and Nelson, 1981). The knob consists of dark-gray limestone that is faulted(?) into a sequence of calcareous muscovite phyllite. Selected samples contain more than 1 percent Zn, 500 ppm Cd, and up to 2 ppm Ag. Apparently the mineralized rock is restricted to the knob.
Workings: Site visted during regional geologic mapping by the USGS in the late 1970s.
