The occurrence is in Denali National Park and Preserve.
Location: This occurrence is about 2500 feet south of the peak of Chitsia Mountain. The location is taken from Bundtzen, Smith, and Tosdal's (1976, pl. 2) reconnaissance map and is probably accurate within 1000 feet. The occurrence correponds to number 76 of Bundtzen, Smith, and Tosdal (1976) and 85b of Bundtzen (1981).
Geology: The country rock in the area of this occurrence consists of phyllite and metarhyolite of the Upper Devonian and Mississippian Totatlanika Formation (Hawley and Associates, 1978, fig. 4.1-A(3); Bundtzen, 1981). The deposit is a vein that strikes NNW and is nearly vertical. It contains quartz, calcite, pyrite, some chalcopyrite, and, possibly, stibnite. Grab samples assayed up to 0.09 ounce of gold per ton, 0.96 ounce of silver per ton, 0.45 percent antimony, 100 ppm molybdenum, and 400 ppm each of copper, lead, and zinc (Bundtzen, 1981, occurrence 85a, table 10). The age and affiliation of the vein is uncertain. Elevated molybdenum is characteristic of deposits in Totatlanika metarhyolite (Bundtzen, 1981).
Workings: The area has been reconnaissnce mapped and sampled (Bundtzen, Smith, and Tosdal, 1976; Hawley and Associates, 1978). There are no significant workings.
Age: Uncertain: possibly Late Devonian or Mississippian (Bundtzen, 1981), or Eocene (see record MM091).
