Location: Sawyer Creek is a east-flowing tributary to the Middle Fork, Koyukuk River; it joins the Middle Fork about 4.75 miles east-southeast of Emma Dome. The exact locations of placer prospects on Sawyer Creek are unknown and these prospects are arbitrarily placed about 0.5 mile west of the mouth of Sawyer Creek.
Geology: Sawyer Creek was prospected for gold in 1936 (Reed, 1938). There is no record of any mining before then. Mosier and Lewis (1986) collected and analyzed five samples of gold from Sawyer Creek. However, there are no reports of actual mining on the creek, probably due in part to numerous large boulders in the creek gravels.
Workings: Sawyer Creek was prospected for gold 1936 (Reed, 1938). There is no record of any mining before then.
