Location: California Creek is a northeast-flowing tributary to Yankee Creek, whose mouth is approximately 1000 feet south of the junction of Yankee Creek and the Innoko River. The coordinates are for the location of a pan-concentrate sample collected from California Creek by Bundtzen and others (1987), in the SW1/4SW1/4, sec. 14., T. 28 S., R. 13 E., Kateel River Meridian. The location is accurate within 500 feet.
Geology: The bedrock in the area around California Creek is mostly sedimentary. The area also contains several Cretaceous or Tertiary monzonite plutons (Chapman and others, 1985), and dikes of varying composition. A pan- concentrate from California Creek contained magnetite, ilmenite, enstatite, anatase, rutile, edenite, two grains of native silver, and one grain of gold (Bundtzen and others, 1987).
