Location: Baker Creek is a northeast-flowing creek that drains from VABM Baker. The site coordinates mark the approximate center of placer gold occurrences in Baker Creek and are analogous to location 38 of Cobb (1972 [MF405]). The coordinates fall in the northwest corner of section 25, T. 14 S., R. 29 E., Kateel River Meridian. The location is accurate within 2 miles.
Geology: The bedrock underlying Baker Creek is probably a low-grade phyllitic schist (Eberlein and others, 1977). Placer gold was reported at Baker Creek in 1918 by Eakin (1918). The old prospect is located near a pluton that ranges in composition from granite to diorite (Puchner and others, 1998). The extent of mining and workings in this area was apparently small (Eberlein and others, 1977).
Age: Quaternary.
Production: Eberlein and others (1977) reported that a small amount of placer gold was produced from Baker Creek.
