The Saarschleife, also known as the Great Bend in the Saar at Mettlach, is a water gap carved by the Saar River through a quartzite layer and today one of the most well-known tourist attractions of the Saarland.

Outcrops of Taunus quartzite on the steep slopes above the "Saarschleife", a horseshoe bend of the river Saar. Located about 1 km ESE of Orscholz (near Mettlach) and about 500 m NW of Dreisbach.

Collecting is now strictly prohibited because the area is a natural reserved area.

Note on the mineral list: The titanite mentioned in Sendelbach & Kleser (2000) subsequently was found to be monazite-(Ce) instead (Kleser, 2005).
