The locality is an elongate (about 200 meters long) discontinuous exposure of Silver Plume Granite (ca 1.45Ga) and pegmatite on a wooded ridge west-southwest of Pipe Springs Campground. The rocks consist of coarse biotite-muscovite granite and pegmatite. Schorl crystals up to 3 cm across and 20 cm long occur in quartz rich portions of the pegmatite, although irregular masses of schorl also occur in the more typical microcline rich pegmatite. Trapezohedral crystals of almandine-spessartine up to 1.5 cm. across are locally common.
