Rhodonite-bearing veins of granite-aplite with silver-manganese mineralization, associated with continental volcanic-subvolcanic rocks.
A "hsihutsunite" (rhodonite) specimen in the collection of Dr. Toyofumi Yoshimura, manganese ore specialist at Kyushu University, was labelled as coming from Hsihutsun mine "north of Peiping" (name for Beijing used in the 1930s and 1940s). Likewise, "Hsihutsun" is the antiquated spelling of what becomes "Xihucun" (meaning Xihu village) in the Pinyin transliteration that is in use nowadays.
