Superlarge baryte deposit, hosted in black shales of the Lower Cambrian Niutitang formation.
China's largest baryte producer.
Slope-basin facies deposits of cherts interbedded with black shales. The bottom water was initially anoxic, but global climate changes and hydrological fluctuations transformed it to a relatively oxic, causing the Sulfate-Methane Transition Zone to descend and resulting in barite deposits to form.
Uranium-bearing phosphorite nodules are common at the bottom of the NTT black shales (Gongxi section 2.5 m). Stratigraphically bedded and nodule barite exposed at the lower part of the NTT silicious layers intercalated with shale layers. The thickness of the ore-bearing rocks varies significantly in different sections (Gongxi section 0.7 m). The upper part of the NTT Fm. is black shale layers usually enriched in V (Gongxi section 3.7 m).
