Coordinates confirmed on topographic map. On a cadastral map of Ascot Township, the mines were in lot 3, ranges VIII to IX.
The name Capelton mines was applied to a group of mines comprising the Capel mine, the Albert mines, and Wheal Betsy,all situated near the village of Albert Mines. The Albert mines operated three inclined shafts referred to as the No.1, No.3 and No.4 (also called the Walter shaft). Copper was discovered here in 1863, and mining ended in 1907. One of the Albert mines shafts reached a depth of about 2,300 feet along the incline. The mines all exploited lenticular ore-bodies of pyrite and chalcopyrite enclosed in the same band of steeply dipping sericite schist in the Appalachian Orogen (460-380 Ga). The sulfides were all apparently massive or disseminated. The secondary minerals listed were all formed post-mining in the waste dumps.
