When opened in 1892 by the Oliver Iron Mining Co., the Riverton group consisted of five mining properties: The Dober Mine, Duff property, Isabella Mine, Iron River Mine, and Riverton Mine. The Dober, Duff, and Isabella were idled in 1933, and absorbed into the Hanna Co.'s Hiawatha No. 2 mine in 1935. The Riverton Group retained Riverton and Iron River mines and continued operations through 1937.
The Dober, Duff, and Isabella are clustered together on the south of the town of Stambaugh, and the Riverton and Iron River are a disjoint cluster on the north of town.
