Trachyte quarry opened on the south flank of Monte Cero, to the north of the village of Calaone.
In the small trachyte cavities two silica polymorphs (cristobalite and quartz) are found. Cristobalite appears as colourless to light blue vitreous crystals, generally showing a pyramidal shape and a hexagonal contour, often twinned; quartz is tipically paramorphous after tridymite, as colourless or white hexagonal lamellar crystals.
