Canfield's Phosphate Mine


An iron mine in magnetite ore located on Mine Hill, East of Sucasunna. Started 1870, restarted 1891. Ore deposit was an 8 foot wide ore deposit, 1,000 feet long (est.). Workings featured 2 shafts (1 = 40 feet deep) (1870); new shaft 1891.
This is an exploratory working with 2 small exploratory shafts less than 40 feet deep. Mineralization is an apatite-rich magnetite lens 8 feet thick.

Located 2 miles SW of Dover in Mine Hill Township.
