Ref.: The Iron Mines of New Jersey (1910), Bayley: 11, 435-436; NJ State Geol. Annual Rpts.: (1873): 33; (1879): 46; (1880): 103; (1883): 91-92; (1884): 77; (1885): 98. An iron mine in magnetite ore. Started 1867 and closed 1873, reopened 1880 and closed in the fall of 1885. Ore vein was 5 feet (.6 meters) wide Workings were 350 feet long by 285 feet deep by 1883. "Sampson" is the correct spelling because the superintendent of mines in the Chester area in the 1870's and 80's was Sampson George, my Uncle Ray's father.
