An iron mine operated by Hemlock River Mining Co during 1891 through 1919, shipping 2.1 million tons of ore. Workings reached 500 feet depth. The mine exploited the middle-Precambrian Amasa Iron Formation of the Baraga Group. The property description is W1/2-SW Sec. 4 T44N-R33W, which is 80 acres between N46º13'55", N46º14'21", W88º26'42", and W88º27'1".
