The tip of the Blomidon peninsula is Cape Split. The area is now a provincial park. There is a very popular 6.5 km (one way) hike to the tip, with a parking lot added at the start in recent years. The south side slopes down to the water and the cliffs tend to be lower. The north side has very large cliffs and access is generally via the ropes to Amethyst Cove.

Any spot along this shoreline can be cut off by the tides and visitors must be very cautious.

This region is generally mineral-poor, though there can be small areas that are well mineralized.

Detailed Mineral List:

Analcime
Formula: Na(AlSi2O6) · H2O
Colour: white
'Apophyllite Group'
Formula: AB4[Si8O22]X · 8H2O
Calcite
Formula: CaCO3
Celadonite
Formula: K(MgFe3+◻)(Si4O10)(OH)2
Habit: Massive, thin coatings on the outside of pockets.
Colour: Green
'Chabazite'
Habit: Rhombohedra; simple penetration twins; phacolite twins to 5mm in diameter
Colour: Colorless, pale beige, pale brown
Fluorapophyllite-(K)
Formula: KCa4(Si8O20)(F,OH) · 8H2O
'Heulandite Subgroup'
Formula: (Na/Ca/K)5-6[Al8-9 Si27-28 O72] · nH2O
Colour: white, brown
Malachite
Formula: Cu2(CO3)(OH)2
Habit: Stains and coatings on copper
Colour: Green
Description: Listed by Marsh. Original reference unknown. Marsh records it as from the shore between Cape Blomidon and Cape Split. Copper has been found along Cape Split, so malachite seems likely as well. There are no reports of proper crystals of malachite.
Mordenite
Formula: (Na2,Ca,K2)4(Al8Si40)O96 · 28H2O
Colour: White
Native Copper
Formula: Cu
Natrolite
Formula: Na2Al2Si3O10 · 2H2O
Habit: massive; radiating prisms
Colour: white
'Psilomelane'
Description: Marsh lists psilomelane from the shore between Blomidon and Cape Split. It is unclear exactly where this mineral was found - none has been reported in recent years.
Quartz
Formula: SiO2
Quartz var. Agate
Formula: SiO2
Quartz var. Chalcedony
Formula: SiO2
Ramsdellite
Formula: Mn4+O2
Colour: Black
Description: Seems very unusual. Unfortunately, the paper that reports it gives minimal description.
'Stilbite Subgroup'
Formula: M6-7[Al8-9Si27-28O72] · nH2O
Colour: white, brown
Tenorite
Formula: CuO
Habit: Coatings on native copper
Colour: Black
Description: Raman identification performed by Don Doell courtesy of RRUFF.
Thomsonite-Ca
Formula: NaCa2[Al5Si5O20] · 6H2O
