Old Richmond
Colorless crystals stained by hematite in cavities in hematite ore.
The original Richmond Mine opened in 1896 first as an underground mine, but quickly converted to an open pit operation the same year. The mine was owned by the Richmond Iron Company and operated until 1927 when all operations were moved approximately one mile east and a new open pit mine was started (the "New" Richmond Mine). Total production from this mine between 1986 and 1927 was 3,604,913 tons of iron ore.
