Johnson, et al(1971) describe this as an amygdaloidal, porphyritic andesite sill, of Eocene age (47 my) exposed in a roadcut on Highway 220, 2.2 miles NE of Monterey. Most of the feldspar and hornblende phenocrysts have been replaced by harmotome. Baryte occurs in the amygdules.
Currently (July 2011) the outcrop is heavily overgrown with fragments of igneous material exposed in only one limited area. None of the exposed material, seen by this author (Warren Cummings), appeared to be vuggy. However, subsequent examination revealed tiny pores, frequently containing very small white roundish objects. The pores are sub millimeter in size and look tiny with a 10X hand lens. From a mineralogical standpoint this is truly micromount material.
