A former Ag-Zn-Au-Cu-Pb-In occurrence/mine located in the SE¼SE¼SE¼ sec. 7, T22N, R17W, G&SRM, ½ mile NE of Cerbat, on Bureau of Land Management administered land. The property consists of 2 claims (Columbus & Monroe Doctrine). The Columbus claim overlaps the Vanderbuilt claim & shaft. Previous owners and operators include J.S. Johnson, Swenson and King, J.H. Hall, C.C. Rouseau, Idaho Columbus Mining Company, M. Wulfenstein, and Cerbat Mountain Mining. Owned by Nina Uncapher, Arizona (1944). Operated by J. H. Hall, Arizona (1947). Discovered 1875 and closed 1962. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 1,000 meters.

Columbus mine. The Columbus mine is about one-fourth mile northwest of the Vanderbilt mine, near the upper side of Flores Wash. The deposits are contained in a fissure vein, which has been opened principally by two shafts reported to be 175 and 200 feet deep and by 500 feet of drift. The production is said to be several hundred tons of rich ore.


Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in schist. The ore body strikes N20W and dips 70E at a width of 1.22 meters and a length of 914.4 meters. The mineralization is associated with a Late Cretaceous porphyry intrusion. Ore occurs in shoots and lenses. Precambrian schistosity strikes N30ºE. Veins, fissures and dikes strike NW to NNW regionally. Associated rocks include Neoproterozoic granite. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic granitic rocks.

Workings include underground openings.

Production statistics: Year: 1946; ore (accurate): Pb - 1 weight percent; Zn - 6.47 weight percent; Cu - 0.046 weight percent; Au - 0.046 ounce (1 gram)/ton; Ag - 2.13 ounces (60 grams)/ton. Several hundred tons of "rich" ore were mined.
