A Mn-U-V occurrence/mineral lease/mine located in the SE¼ sec. 23, T30N, R18W, and/or in the E½ sec. 13, T30N, R17W, G&SRM, on Bureau of Land Management administered land / National Recreation Area land. Owned by William Baker, B. M. Mitchell, and A. L. Kissee, California (1957). The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 500 meters. NOTE: The 2 USGS MRDS database files presents differing geographic coordinates and T&R values for this locality. There may be more than one claim or lease area.
Mineralization is Mn ore in pods and U ore in tabular bodies hosted in Pliocene limestone. Ore control was marly zones between resistant limestone beds. Host rock is the Organ Rock tongue of the Cutler formation. Iron staining is associated with the U mineralization. Local structure is minor joints trending N28º-30ºW, and dipping 80º-85ºS. Radioactivity: schist: background = 0.1 milliroetgen/hour, maximum 1.4 mr/hour; limestone: background = 0.04 milliroetgen/hour, average of 0.04 mr/hour. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic granitic rocks and/or Early Pleistocene to latest Pliocene surficial deposits.
