The opening marks an important development for BISP as the school prepares for the 2026/27 academic year while celebrating its 30th anniversary. Founded in Phuket in 1996, BISP has continued to develop its campus and educational provision over the past three decades, with the new Study Centre reflecting the schoolâs commitment to evolving alongside the changing ways students learn.
The centre was officially opened by BISP CEO Dr Apiramon Ourairat, with Mr Duke Theerathada CBS, members of the AOI Board and Executive Committee, senior leaders, staff, parents and students joining the celebration.
BISP was also pleased to welcome senior representatives from Phuket’s education community, including: Ms Panna Promwichian, Director of the Phuket Provincial Education Office; Ms Nitthaka Chuchuen, Education Officer; Mr Jirayut Ruamsuk, Human Resources Officer; and Ms Pannarat Chairat, Human Resources Officer.
During the opening, BISP Head of School Simon Meredith reflected on how learning and working environments have evolved and the importance of creating spaces that respond to the different ways students study, communicate and collaborate.
“For our students, this needs to become somewhere they want to be. A place where they can be productive. A place where they can collaborate. A place where they can work independently. A place where they can find a quiet corner, engage with others, or simply feel comfortable and at home while they learn,” said Mr Meredith.
Designed as an alternative to the traditional model of a school study environment, the new centre provides students with a range of spaces for independent study, collaborative work and quiet concentration. Its flexible layout allows students to choose an environment suited to their individual needs and the type of work they are undertaking, encouraging greater independence and ownership of their learning.
While technology will naturally play an important role in how students use the centre, the development has been designed first and foremost around people. Comfort, flexibility, choice and connection are central to the space, recognising that students have different approaches to learning and can benefit from being able to move between individual and collaborative environments throughout the school day.
The Study Centre will also become an important space for planning life beyond school, with BISP’s Head of Senior School and University Counsellors based within the centre, bringing academic study and future planning together in one environment. Students will be able to access guidance and support as they explore universities, career pathways, applications and future academic opportunities.
The new Senior School Study Centre represents Stage 1 of BISP’s Learning Hub for the Secondary School, with further development to follow as part of the project. As the Learning Hub takes shape, it will become an increasingly important part of everyday Senior School life, creating new opportunities for learning, collaboration and connection across the school community.
The opening carries particular significance during BISP’s 30th anniversary year. Since opening in 1996, the school has grown alongside Phuket’s international community, continually developing its campus and educational opportunities while remaining focused on preparing students for the world beyond BISP.
“As we celebrate 30 years of BISP, this is a wonderful example of our school continuing to evolve while remaining focused on what matters most: creating the very best environment for our students to learn, grow and thrive,” Mr Meredith said.
With the new academic year about to begin, BISP now looks forward to welcoming students into the centre and seeing how they make the new space their own. As the school celebrates three decades in Phuket, the opening represents another step in BISPâs continued investment in its campus and its commitment to creating learning environments that prepare students for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
