I have been interested in geology and minerals since childhood. The first self-collected specimen still in my collection dates from 1963. At that time mineral collecting and mineralogical studies had to a large extent been dormant in Norway for half a century. During the 1960ies,equipped with classic mineralogical litterature by Goldschmidt and Brögger I "rediscovered" many of the classic localities in the famous Oslo-region including contact metamorphic deposits, alkaline pegmatites and cavities in plutonic rocks.A large number of interesting new localities also came to light in Norway during this periode.
I later made part-time studies of mineralogy as a byline to professional studies of chemistry and medicine. My professional acitivities have mainly been in internal medicine and in the area of quality assurance in medical biochemistry.
Following decades of field-collecting I have an intimate knowledge of important rare mineral localities in Scandinavia and Greenland. Many collecting trips and expeditions, purchases and trades with other collectors, museums and dealers have resulted in an extensive systematic collection of more than 3.000 species including minerals from famous localities like Långban, the Langesundsfjord-area, Ilimaussaq, Narssarssuq etc. During the last decades I have also assembled many locality-oriented display-collections representing many of the most prominent specimen-producing localities in the world. I have a special interest in the Långban-type localities in Sweden hosting a large number of very rare minerals - most of them with decent examples in my collection. The collection of about 15.000 specimens (2024) have been cataloged using the Mindat cataloging template and images of many of the specimens (some of them among the "best of species") have been uploaded to my Mindat gallery.
I am also one of a small number of non-Swedish members of the Långban Society that host members both from the scientific and collector community.
I have for more than 40 years been attending major mineral shows around the world and have had the pleasure also visiting more than 100 important museums and private collections.
I have been the author and co-author of different articles on minerals and localities - mostly for amateurs - but also participated in the scientific description of new species and structure type specimens I have discovered. I enjoy contributing to Mindat which has become the most important reference database and educational tool for mineralogists and mineral-collectors world-wide.
