The name aluminokatophorite is derived from the amphibole nomenclature presented by Leake (1978) as a katophorite group species with Fe2+ and Al as the dominant elements in the C position. This name was discredited by Leake et.al (1997), and following the redefinition of the katophorite group in the 2012 amphibole nomenclature, this mineral is named ferro-katophorite
