"Ferrite" has also been used to describe:
1. Native iron, such as the terrestrial iron from Disko Island, Greenland: Ferrite (of English).
2. A general term applied to grains, scales, and threads of unidentifiable, more or less transparent or amorphous, red, brown, or yellow, presumed iron oxide in the groundmass of a porphyritic rock (Johannsen, 1939): Ferrite (of Johannsen)
3. A term used by Tieje (1921) for a cemented iron-rich sediment whose particles do not interlock: Ferrite (of Tieje)
4. A synthetic ceramic compound consisting of a mixed oxide of iron and one or more other metals (such as barium, manganese, nickel, and zinc) which has ferrimagnetic properties and is used in high-frequency electrical components such as aerials: Ferrite (ceramic)
5. In metallurgy, a form of pure iron with a body-centred cubic crystal structure, occurring in low-carbon steel, one of the allotropes of iron that is stable at room temperature and pressure, α-Fe: ferrite (metallurgical)
