The designation "Biotite-Phlogopite Series" is outdated.

According to the new nomenclature of the Mica group (Rieder et al. 1998), "biotite" is redefined as a series name and is not longer a valid species. The redefined biotite series comprises trioctahedral micas with compositions between, or close to, the phlogopite-annite and eastonite-siderophyllite joins.
In earlier pre-1998 literature "biotite" has been used as name for the end-member of the solid solution series biotite-phlogopite. With a new understanding and definition of the micas, this term is hence no longer in use.
