Name:
According to Hey, the name fuscite comes from fuscus 'tawny', referring to its appearance. The name fucsit was used by Lenz in his Mineralogische Taschenbuch (1798) as a synonym of pinite. Schumacher (1801) used this name to describe a greenish-black, prismatic mineral from Kallerigen (Kallevigen?), Arendal, Norway. This Arendal mineral was later found to be a pseudomorph after scapolite.
