About Ixiolite GroupHide

Name:
Named after ixiolite, the first mineral described in this group, originally named by Nordenskiöld in 1857.
A group belonging to the Columbite Supergroup, and consist of tantalum–niobium oxide minerals found mainly in granitic pegmatites. They are characterised by a cation‑disordered crystal structure similar in composition to minerals of the Columbite Group but lacking their ordered atomic arrangement.
In the crystal structure of ixiolite-group minerals, all cations occupy a single M1 site.
