Named in 1888 by Waldemar Christofer Brøgger and Helge Mattias Bäckström in honor of the Tellef Dahll [1825 Norway - 1893 Norway] and Johan Martin Dahll [1830 Norway - Norway 1877], brothers, Norwegian geologists and mineralogists. Tellef Dahll discovered the discredited element, norvegium.
Synonym:
First described from the Ødegården mines, Bamble, Telemark, Norway.
