Thionasilite
A valid IMA mineral species - pending publication
This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
Na2Si2S2O3
Crystal System:
Orthorhombic
Name:
Named after its (somewhat unique) composition, "thio" meaning sulfur.
Type Locality:
Structurally related to hydroxyapophyllite-(K).
Note: If the formula given is correct, either the silicon in this mineral is zerovalent (rather unlikely) or, rather, the mineral has a Si2O52- anion with 2 oxygen atoms substituted by sulfide.
