Name:
The name kegginite is for the presence of the ε-isomer of the Keggin anion as the basis of the structural unit in the mineral, and recognizes James Fargher Keggin (31 December 1905, Isle of Man, UK - 11 April 1993), Manchester University, who first experimentally determined the structure of α-Keggin anions.
New structure type. Unique combination of elements. Also unique in being the first mineral with vanadyl-containing polyoxometalate anion. First natural Pb arsenovanadate, and the first mineral combining Pb and VO group. One of a few polyoxometalate minerals from the same site; compare, e.g., gatewayite, morrisonite, packratite (also Ca-bearing arsenovanadates).

Structurally related to bicapite.
