Name:
Honours the collector Luigi Chiappino of Milan, Italy, who discovered the mineral.
Type Locality:
Other silicates with dominant Y and Mn are bussyite-(Y) and perettiite-(Y).
The structure is based on 3-tetrahedra-thick silicate layers comprising sinuous batisite-like chains. 4-membered silicate rings are locaed above and below these chains. [8]Y and [8]Mn sites are between the silicate layers. The crystal structure is essentially identical to that of the synthetic compounds PrNaSi6O14 and NdNaSi6O14, except that these have an additional Na site (12-coordinated) within the "cage" in the silicate layer.
