Named in honor of Donald David Hogarth (1927, Toronto, Ontario, Canada - 4 December 2019, Canada), professor in the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa, Canada in recognition of his contributions to the mineralogy and geology of the Grenville Province, and to the nomenclature of the pyrochlore group.

Morphology:
Bladed to blocky crystals, average 0.05 × 0.15 × 2 mm in size. Forming dense, radiating aggregates up to 0.5 × 3 mm in size. Crystals are elongate along [100], flattened on {010} and are bounded by the forms pinacoid {010} (dominant), pinacoid {100} (minor), and pinacoid {001} (minor).
