The manganhumite series constitutes a polysomatic series of minerals with the general formula Mn2nSinO4n•Mn(OH,F)2 for n = 2,3,4, where n designates the number of olivine layers between each norbergite M(OH,F)2 layer in the structure. There is very little chemical substitution in the olivine groups in the structure, but the exchange Mn <-> Mg may occur in environments rich in both Mn and Mg (Mn-rich dolomite skarns). No F-dominant species has been approved in the manganhumite series even though some analyses show F>OH

Geological Environment
Geological Setting:
The Mn-humites are almost exclusively found associated with Mn-ores, either hydrothermal deposits or in metamorphosed ores associated with carbonate rocks and/or skarns (calc-silicate rocks).
