Name:
The name is derived from its yttrium content and similarity to betafite. The name yttrobetafite was first used by Kalita (1961) for specimens from Alakurtii granite pegmatites, Northern Karelia and Nuolainiemi pegmatite, Ladoga Region, Karelia Republic, Russia
Yttrobetafite of Kalita (1959) and Liferovich & Mitchell (2005) are a Zero valent dominant member of Pyrochlore Group.

Yttrobetafite-(Y) from the Moon (Meyer & Yang 1988) is oxycalciobetafite.
